Immerse yourself in the rhythmic heartbeat of U Street with our “Cocktail Couture & Jazz Beats” tour, where every note and sip is a celebration of culture, history, and refinement. Experience the perfect fusion of Black Broadway’s jazz heritage, Michelin Star cuisine, and expertly crafted cocktails. It’s the perfect night out for cocktail connoisseurs and jazz aficionados alike.

Drink in the local spirit

We’ll visit several of our favorite bars and restaurants, carefully curated for their contributions to our story about the history of the neighborhood….and a couple have been recognized by the famed Michelin guide! Between the opportunities we’ve coordinated to imbibe and taste award-winning cuisine, you’ll see and hear all about the street art, architecture, and evolving history of this iconic DC neighborhood. We’ve preselected tasty bites we think everyone will enjoy (and always have a vegetarian option – select the vegetarian option when you book) and you’ll have a choice between a couple of specialty cocktails at each stop. Our experience ends in a place where we think you might just choose to relax for a bit, so consider keeping the evening open after your tour!

Aside from carefully curated cocktails, plentiful tastings, and fascinating history, your experience includes custom photos of your tour. A portion of each tour ticket is donated to our charity partner and is enough to feed a local resident in need for the whole day, three full meals.

***NOTE: Since this tour includes alcohol, we strongly suggest arriving and departing using public transportation, cabs, or ride share.

Wondering if there is overlap between Black Broadway – U Street Fork Tour and U Street’s Jazzed Up Cocktail Tour? Here is your answer: NOPE! They are in the same neighborhood and focus on similar subjects but the restaurants, tastings, and experiences are DIFFERENT. We often have people spend their Saturdays with us doing both tours with a little break in between!

We applaud solo travel! Single tickets for solo travelers are available once we reach our 2 person minimum on Saturdays; if your date is not yet available to book for 1 ticket, please join our waitlist to be notified when single tickets are available on the date you’d like to explore the U Street corridor with us.

We have provided the option for small private tours on Thursday and Friday to be booked directly online for 2 to 8 people with 48 hours notice. Blue Fern Travel is committed to supporting our local community and our partners. When you join a tour with us, you are directly contributing to our mission. Your tour dollars are helping in several different ways:

  • A portion of your ticket price is donated directly to Bread For The City; you are responsible for feeding a DC resident in need THREE MEALS. Since 2014, together with our guests, we’ve donated 40,000 meals; help us reach our goal of donating 10,000 in 2024 for our 10th Anniversary! 
  • Our restaurant partners are small local businesses, predominantly minority and/or women-owned.
  • Some food tour companies negotiate tasting prices at restaurants they visit. Blue Fern Travel considers our restaurants to be our partners and we pay full price and tip your server 20%.
  • We pay our guides a living wage.

Michelin Guide-Recognized Restaurants

I recently went on Blue Fern Travel's U Street Jazzed Up Cocktail Tour. I'm local to the area, but I learned so much about D.C. Black history and U Street, commonly referred to as Black Broadway. This is a great way to get off the Mall and immerse yourself in local history and culture. It was about a mile in walking through Ledroit Park, Shaw and U Street, and we made stops at some Michelin Guide-recognized restaurants for cocktails and meals. You definitely leave the tour full. I think this is great for solo travelers, couples and corporate groups.

Cocktail Tour for Locals OR Out of Towners

If you are looking to spend some great 3-hours, learn history while sipping some delicious local coctails and bites, look no further than the FIZZ tour by Blue Fern! We did 3 stops, explored all the landmarks of U Street , tasted some STRONG drinks and munched on some appetizers in each location. At the end of the tour, everyone became best friends :)! The tour guides were very knowledgeable about Black history, jazz and DC history as a whole. I learned something new at each spot! Even though I walked those streets before, I have not walked them with actually knowing where I was walking. My highlight was St James for sure! Highly recommend for locals who are looking for an interesting activity and also out of towners!
